At the Hand house, you can not simply root for “Tech” or cheer “Let’s Go Tech!” Which Tech? Which state?
Last Saturday Georgia Tech played Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA. As many of you know, Shannon went to Virginia Tech (aka VPI for Virginia Polytechnic and State University) and is still quite a HOKIE fan. Yes, exactly: what IS a hokie bird anyway?? I went to Georgia Tech - home of the Yellow Jackets. OK, so our mascot is a bumble bee but at least it’s an identifiable species!
Well, suffice it to say that I felt a little outnumbered when game time rolled around! How convenient that my wife and all of my children (notice I said MY) were completely clad in Hokie attire. What was I given to wear to support my team? A nineteen-year-old ball cap! (You can barely distinguish the faded GT in the photo) That was it.
But hey, it was enough. The score says it all:

Nice!

I know the feeling. Patricia is a Hokie, too, as you know, and I’m a Tiger from Clemson (now that’s a mascot to be proud of!)
We’re going to be hating it Oct 26 (Thursday night on ESPN) when VT and Clemson play.
Oh by the way, that day is our 10-year wedding anniversary. Oh the irony.

Just remember not to discuss that horrible memory when you come to visit Virginia next weekend… Between all of the houses you are visiting David, you may be slightly outnumbered, and most likely the only one that enjoyed that game.
Congrats on your win… this year. We’ll be back again next year — that unidentified species from Virginia Tech.
We can’t wait to see you all - have a safe trip!!!
