On the City

Real, not virtual, community for Jesus’ fame.

Click the link above and you will go to a Demo Page for OntheCity.org.  Launched by a church on the west coast, this site is now becoming more like a social networking venue to build relationships and community.  If you’re like me, you might find it a little overwhelming at first, but I really think this is the future of church based small group community.

They are setting the standard very high when in comes to quality, usability and a feature-rich set of tools.  In short, they have thought of just about EVERYTHING you would want to do to communicate and grow with people in your community.

And it is structure in such a way that I see the Great Commission (evangelism through discipleship) being accomplished and accelerated.  It’s not about a flashy web site – it’s about relationships.  Relationships for Jesus’ fame, as they put it.  I like that.

Sweet website. It is very similar to the new CCC website http://www.allcallings.com that seeks to keep ministry teams connected and growing.

Can onthecity be used by the public (you and I) or is it only for Mars Hill churches?

    Brock,
To answer your question, I am not certain but it appeared to me that you must be approved by a leader in one of the Mars Hill association of small groups to use the tool. You could probably find out by visiting the Mars Hill church site.
In related news, Zondervan publishing/media corporation recently purchased OnTheCity.org for $4million. Supposedly they want to make it available to other churches.
That’s about all I know about that.
