How Hearts Stir in the HalfPipe

“If this is all there is, then I don’t want to do it anymore,” said Kelly Clark, pro snowboarder and Olympic gold medalist.  Yet it was a comment Kelly overheard from a competitor regarding God’s love and grace when we lose in life that “stirred something up” inside her – causing her to seek out a Christian athlete who could tell her about God.

At this point, Kelly had achieved her dreams, yet had “never once wondered why we are here, never thought about Him, never been to church, nothing.”   Want to hear how Jesus came into her heart?  Kelly tells her story in the 4min video here.

Cru’s ministry to college and pro athletes like Kelly seeks to use the platform of sport to see Christ-followers raised up on every team, every sport, every nation.  Jesus loves all the athletes in Sochi.  Think of all the hundreds of Olympians who could return to their home countries – many countries where the name of Jesus is obscured or vacant entirely – with so much more than a medal around their necks.  Despite short lived applause or even disappointments, many could return home joyously confident in SomeOne other than themselves.

While you watch the Women’s Snowboard HalfPipe tonight, why not pray for several of the athletes by name?  And pray for God to work through Kelly at the games in Sochi.  Ask the Lord to work in hearts.
